Sector Benchmark
Note: Latest GHG and revenue data (based on tradingview.com) are used to calculate GHG emissions intensity by sector. The color scale of each bubble depends on the GHG intensity (GHG emissions per 1 million USD revenue). Sectors follow the Global Industry Classification Standard (GICS) that organize companies based on their primary business activities. The 11 sectors are : Information Technology, Health Care, Financials, Consumer Discretionary, Communication Services, Industrials, Consumer Staples, Energy, Utilities, Real Estate, and Materials.
Veolia belongs to the sector Utilities.

Overall Net-Zero Target: Veolia Environnement S.A. commits to reach net-zero greenhouse gas emissions across the value chain by 2050. Near-Term Targets: Veolia also commits to reduce scope 1 emissions from electricity generated 78.8% per MWh by 2032 from a 2021 base year. Veolia also commits to reduce all other absolute scopes 1 and 2 GHG emissions 50.4% within the same timeframe. Veolia further commits to reduce scope 1 and scope 3 GHG emissions from fuel and energy related activities covering all sold electricity 78.9% within the same timeframe. Veolia finally commits to reduce all other absolute scope 3 GHG emissions from fuel and energy-related activities, and emissions from upstream transportation and distribution, business travel, employee commuting, use of sold products and end-of-life treatment of sold products 30% within the same timeframe. Long-Term Targets: Veolia also commits to reduce scope 1 emissions from electricity generated 96.5% per MWh by 2040 from a 2021 base year. Veolia also commits to reduce all other absolute scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions 90% by 2050 from a 2021 base year. Veolia further commits to reduce scope 1 and scope 3 GHG emissions from fuel and energy related activities covering all sold electricity 98% per MWh by 2040 from a 2021 base year. Veolia finally commits to reduce all other absolute scope 3 GHG emissions 90% by 2050 from a 2021 base year.

Plans for carbon dioxide removal (CDR) | Yes (nature-based and CCS-based removals) |
Additional notes: Carbon removals: 'Capture and offset our remaining greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, including deploying Carbon Capture, Utilisation and Storage (CCUS) technology across our energy recovery facilities (ERFs), and capturing over 85% of fugitive landfill emissions'. (2021 Sustainability Report). [Compensate (i.e. off-set) for the emissions which cannot be avoided. Veolia is a participant in carbon off-set programs ( e.g. valuation of biogas from storage centres in Latin America). The group has also participated in developing the French "low-carbon" label through I4CE, thus opening up the market for offsets in France, and/or the market for voluntary compensation. For example, the agreement among French water suppliers, which includes 4.6 Million users, is carbon neutral.] No separate targets for GHG emissions reduction and avoidance but they are reported separately.
